The long awaited re-design of Splash Mountain in Frontierland in Magic Kingdom! Join Tiana and all her friends on a Bayou adventure with a ride filled with bright colors, cool animations and lots of jazz music. As my sensory kid is NOT a fan of roller coasters, he did not ride with me but chose to step through and I’m glad he did. Although this ride was fun and a great re-imagining of The Princess and the Frog, if you have a sensory kid that does not enjoy steep drops…this is NOT for them. There are a few smaller drops within the ride before the final 50ft drop at the end. You will wind around in the log container both in open air and inside (mostly inside) as you travel through New Orleans and the Bayou with all of Tiana’s friends. We were pretty wet after the large drop so I was glad to be wearing my poncho!
I have a heightened vestibular system myself, and although I’m glad to ride and share my first person view, I won’t need to ride it again. I am NOT a fan of drops, and 50ft drops aren’t my jam. Also, I don’t like being wet (and then having to dry off…too many sensory temperature changes for me and my sensory kiddo!)
I was thoroughly impressed with the animations and set design of this ride and my thrill seeker oldest child absolutely LOVED it. We used our DAS pass, so we didn’t get to go through the queue, which I’ve heard (and can tell with the video below) was really neat! Our biggest tip is watching the point of view video below BEFORE riding. Removing the uncertainty and unknown can allow a sensory kid to actually enjoy the ride even if it might be scarier than normal.
